For the general candidates, they must have completed XII standard examinations with English as one of the mandatory languages. Additionally, they must also have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They can also have chemistry, biotechnology, computer science or any other subject as optional to be eligible for the BTech course in BMS College of Engineering.
Coming to the SC, ST, OBC, and other categories, the candidates must have passed 12th standard examination or any other equivalent examination with English as one of the languages. They must have scored a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They can also have chemistry, biology, biotechnology, computer science or any other subject as optional.
In case a candidate fails to score qualifying marks in chemistry during the 12th standard examination, the marks obtained by them in the other optional subjects will be considered to create a balance in the aggregate.
For lateral entry of the candidates for three years BE course, the candidate who passed their 12th standard examination with an aggregate of 45% marks ( in case of general category) and 40% ( in case of SC, ST, OBC category) are eligible.

Usually, 50% of seats are reserved for the students who have appeared for KCET. 30 to 35% of seats are reserved for the COMEDK students. And 15 to 20% of seats are reserved for the management quota students.

The entrance exam usually has 180 multiple choice questions, each containing one mark. The exam has three sections, namely physics, chemistry and maths. Each of these sections has 60 questions each.
